As the 2025/26 season begins, LALIGA has renewed its fight against audiovisual piracy, calling it the biggest threat to sports and entertainment today. Spanish football alone loses an estimated €600–700 million annually due to illegal broadcasts. But the issue isn’t just about money it’s about fan safety.
Recent findings reveal that more than half of online viruses are tied to pirated content or illegal streaming platforms. That means when fans turn to unauthorized sites for “free” matches, they may actually be opening the door to cybercriminals. LALIGA’s campaign message, “You Get Pirated Football, They Get You,” captures this harsh reality.

The risks are serious. Hackers behind illegal streams can steal personal data emails, home addresses, bank details and even take control of devices. Victims may not notice until it’s too late, facing consequences such as identity theft, financial fraud, or complete loss of privacy. What seemed like a harmless free stream could end up being one of the costliest mistakes a fan ever makes.
The problem is particularly widespread among younger audiences, with Spain ranking among Europe’s leaders in pirated audiovisual consumption, according to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). That’s why LALIGA is urging fans everywhere to choose official broadcasters and licensed platforms. Beyond supporting the clubs and players, legal channels guarantee high-quality streaming and protect viewers from hidden dangers.

As football fans, we all love the game, but protecting ourselves while enjoying it matters even more. This season, the safest and smartest move is to stream responsibly through trusted providers. Because when it comes to football, the real win is enjoying every match without putting your data and your future at risk.
